Immer mal wieder schreibe ich hier auch über Musik – das fühlt sich immer so herrlich nostalgisch an. Musikblogs, das waren gute Zeiten. Und ja, wir sind jetzt offiziell alle so alt, dass wir erleben, wie die Bands unserer Jugend Piano-EPs rausbringen. Aber: keine Beschwerden von meiner Seite! 

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, die Formation, die mittlerweile keine mehr ist, sondern unter der Sänger und Gitarrist Alec Ounsworth nun solo veröffentlicht, hat einige (meiner liebsten!) Songs just als Piano & Voice EP veröffentlicht. Seine simmernde (und teilweise auch angrenzend nervtötende!) Stimme funktioniert darin ganz fantastisch; und treibende Popsongs wie Some Loud Thunder werden plötzlich schön und ruhig und flüssig wie Wasser.

Wie so viel gute Musik entstand auch diese EP während der Pandemie:

Backstory here: Piano was my first instrument (piano at 7, guitar at 13) and many CYHSY songs originated with piano and voice and then the pandemic forced some spare time during which I rearranged practically all CYHSY songs for piano and/or guitar…

Long story short, sitting down at the piano and traveling back into my work was a renewal of sorts and I discovered that I really enjoyed the new arrangements (I have always been interested in creative tear downs of this sort—to the foundation as it were, provided that the songs actually have a strong foundation).

The songs kept the original flavor but also provided something maybe a little more expansive for me that helped me get to the heart of what I had intended (beyond that they be fun, etc). Also, other people have said they can actually understand my lyrics in this form which is a good thing.
