I’ll be a bit more alive for the next months. So—here are five things that inspired me recently. Maybe you want to squeeze them into your longer days that we have from now on.

Deb Chachra’s newsletter “Metafoundry”

Deb is an associate professor of Engineering, where she teaches materials science and engineering design. She also writes a newsletter about technology, design, social justice, geography and much more. I especially like the briefness of it, while it’s still incredibly inspiring. Enriched with little situational stories and facts, it’s the perfect reading for a Monday morning train ride. Subscribe here.

James Bridle – We found love in a coded space

I discovered James’ work first through his research on The New Aesthetic, where he describes the influence of digital patterns in the analog world. All of his writing is incredible and interesting. In his talk “We found love in a coded space” (literally the best talk title ever), James talks about our relationship to robots, and their belonging in this world. Watch it here.

Alex Feyerke – Step off This Hurtling Machine

Alex gave a talk at JSConfAU last year, which was recently published online. It’s a great and insightful round-up of the field web developers (and generally everyone who makes the web) are working in. Just watch it, there are tons of things in it you didn’t think or know of before. Watch it here.

Urban Outfitters Blog

I always get frustrated with fashion and interior blogs. It’s nice to look at them, but their content is very repetitive and staged; it’s hard to get anything real out of those faces and spaces. But I like the Urban Outfitters blog, where you can find—between all the fashion and brand-blah-blah—real gems: For example this Collection of Books That Inspired Our Favourite Movies, or Annie Seo’s Black + White drawings.

Drawing People on the Subway

I like drawing. It relaxes me, especially when I do it without purpose. But sometimes I need a purpose, and commuting through the city is perfect inspiration. Hallie Bateman explains step by step, beautifully illustrated, how to draw people on the subway.

I am a big fan of daylight saving time.
